April 21 & 28 • Tuesdays, 1:00–3:00pm • $50 per student • All materials included • Limited to 6 students
Hosted by the Fiber Palace and Learning Center
Have you always wanted to learn to knit? This friendly, hands-on beginner series will have you knitting your first project in just two sessions.
Session 1 — April 21
We’ll start from the very beginning. Your instructor will cast on for you, and you’ll learn the knit stitch — the foundation of all knitting. You’ll leave with your work in hand and practice at home between sessions.
Session 2 — April 28
Ready to take it further! You’ll learn the purl stitch, which combined with the knit stitch opens up a universe of patterns. We’ll finish by learning to cast off, so you leave with a completed piece you made yourself.
All yarn and needles are provided. No experience necessary — just bring your enthusiasm!
April 10 • Friday, 3:00–5:00pm • $40 per student • All materials included • Limited to 6 students
Curious about weaving? This hands-on, two-hour introduction will walk you through the fundamentals of rigid heddle weaving — one of the most accessible and satisfying fiber arts there is.
You’ll learn how a loom works, how to read a warp, and how to throw a shuttle as you weave on a pre-warped loom provided for your in-class use by your instructor. No setup frustration, no prior experience needed.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a small woven sample to take home, along with the foundational skills to continue your weaving journey.
Looms and all materials are provided. Just bring your curiosity and comfortable clothes.
Location: The Fiber Palace, 35082 Kenai Spur, Soldotna
April 7 & 14 • Tuesdays, 1:00–3:00pm • $50 per student • Kits Available • Limited to 6 students
Ready to knit your first real project? This two-session workshop is perfect for the brand-new knitter and anyone looking for a satisfying, gift-worthy project. You’ll leave with a lovely hand knit scarf and the skills to keep going.
Session 1 — April 7
We’ll cast on together and work through the knit and purl stitches–the two building blocks of virtually every knitting pattern. By the end of the session, your scarf will be underway.
Session 2 — April 14
You’ll learn how to add a new skein of yarn and what to do when you drop a stitch –two essential skills for every knitter. We’ll finish by casting off, or if you need more time, you can visit during the Designated Knitter drop-ins on Wednesdays when you are ready.
Materials:
· Approximately 450 yards of Aran or worsted weight yarn.
· US size 7 needles (or size appropriate for your yarn)
· Stitch marker
· Yarn needle
Most students will continue knitting at home between sessions and are welcome to bring their scarf to any Designated Knitter Drop-in for help along the way.
Registration in advance is required. Bring your own handspun or purchase at the Fiber Palace. Yarn and needles are available for purchase at Magpie & Ewe.
