April 24 & May 1 • Fridays 1:00–3:00pm • $50 per student • Kits Available • Limited to 6 students
Ready to take your knitting in a new direction? This workshop will take you around in circles! You’ll create a cozy hat and build your knitterly skills.
You’ll learn to cast on and join in the round—the foundation of hats, mittens, socks, and sweaters. We’ll cover circular and double point needles* so you can work in whichever style suits you, then begin the ribbed brim and body of your hat.
You’ll continue working the body of your hat, then learn the crown decreases that give it its shape. We’ll finish by securing the last stitches and weaving in ends, so you leave with a complete hat you made yourself.
Materials needed:
· Approximately 150 yards of worsted or heavy DK weight yarn (100 g)
· US 4 (3.5mm) double points or 16” circular needle
· US 6 (4mm) double points or 16” circular needle
· Stitch marker
· Yarn needle
*Note on needle choice: Tamara knits in the round using two circular needles instead of double points or magic loop. Please choose the needles you are comfortable with.
Pattern copies are provided in class, Christian’s Hat by Agnes Kutas-Keresztes is also available free on Ravelry.
Most students will continue knitting at home between sessions and are welcome to bring their hat to any Designated Knitter Drop-in for help along the way.
Registration in advance is required. Bring your own handspun or purchase at the Fiber Palace. Yarn and needles available for purchase at Magpie & Ewe.
